Moxi and Sofwave on the Same Day: One Recovery, Two Results

By Monika McComb, RN, BSN — Refine Aesthetics, Austin, TX | Updated October 2026

Yes, you can have Moxi and Sofwave in the same visit, and for a lot of my patients it’s the smarter way to do both. Sofwave adds essentially no downtime of its own, so pairing it with Moxi means you recover once instead of twice, and you walk out having addressed two different layers of your skin in a single sitting. That’s the whole case in one sentence. The rest of this is me explaining why it works and what the day actually looks like.

Why combine Moxi and Sofwave at all?

Because they don’t do the same job. Moxi is a gentle, non-ablative fractional laser that works at the surface, refreshing tone, texture, early fine lines, and dullness. Sofwave uses ultrasound energy delivered to the mid-dermis to stimulate collagen and firm and lift mild to moderate laxity. One treats the skin you see; the other treats the scaffolding underneath it. Doing only one leaves the other concern on the table.

Most people over 35 aren’t dealing with just texture or just a little softening along the jaw. They’re dealing with both at once, quietly, usually after catching themselves in a bad-lighting selfie. Treating both in one plan is how you get a result that reads as “rested” instead of “I fixed one thing.”

Doesn’t doing two treatments mean twice the downtime?

This is the part most people get backwards, and it’s the best reason to combine them. Sofwave requires no downtime — you might have mild redness or slight swelling that settles within hours to a day, and you can go back to normal life the same afternoon. Moxi is where the visible recovery lives, and even that is short: expect two to four days of a sandpapery, faintly bronzed look as the skin sheds and refreshes, with makeup fine after about 24 hours.

So when you stack them, your recovery window doesn’t double. It stays roughly the length of one Moxi recovery, and you get the Sofwave lift folded into that same few days for free, downtime-wise. You spend one recovery window and collect two results. If you did them as separate appointments, you’d book two visits, take two blocks of time off from looking your polished best, and still land in the same place. Combining is simply the efficient version.

What does the combined visit look like?

Plan on the better part of an hour to ninety minutes in the chair, depending on the areas we treat. We cleanse and apply a topical numbing cream, then perform the two treatments back to back in one sitting. Sofwave’s built-in cooling keeps it comfortable; Moxi feels warm, like a mild sunburn for the first several minutes after. I sequence the two based on your skin and the areas we’re covering — that’s a judgment call I make in the room, not a fixed rule, and I’ll talk you through it before we start.

You’ll leave pink and warm. By the next morning most people look flushed rather than red. Days two and three are the “MEND” phase, when Moxi’s fine bronze dots surface and then flake off, usually clearing by day three to five. Sofwave’s tightening isn’t something you see that week — collagen remodels over the following weeks to months, so the lift arrives gradually and keeps building.

Who is this pairing actually right for?

The honest answer is: not everyone, and I’d rather tell you that up front than sell you both. This combination fits you well if you have some surface concerns (uneven tone, texture, sun-related dullness, early fine lines) and early-to-moderate softening you’d like firmed without surgery. Sofwave is FDA-cleared for fine lines and skin laxity on the face, neck, and jawline, so those are the areas where the pairing tends to shine.

If your main issue is deep pigment or significant sun damage, we might weight your plan differently. If you have very advanced laxity, Sofwave lifts mild to moderate laxity — it is not a facelift, and I won’t pretend it is. A consultation is where we sort that out honestly.

Will I look like I’ve had something done?

No — and if you’re worried about that, you’re exactly the kind of patient I like working with, because it means we want the same thing. The goal here is not a dramatic, obvious change. It’s that you look like yourself on a good day: clearer skin, a little more firmness, the version of your face you recognize from a few years ago. Both of these treatments build results gradually rather than switching your appearance on overnight, which is precisely why they read as natural. People will think you slept well or came back from vacation. That’s the entire point.

How long do the results last, and how often would I repeat this?

Moxi’s improvements in tone and texture typically hold for around a year with good sun protection and skincare, and many patients repeat it every six to twelve months to stay ahead of new sun damage. Real correction usually comes from a short series of three to four Moxi sessions spaced about a month apart rather than a single visit, so think of your combined day as the start of a plan, not a one-and-done. Sofwave’s collagen-building lift develops over the months after treatment and is often maintained with periodic sessions. I’ll map out a realistic cadence for your skin, and it will be built around your budget and your calendar, not a package I’m trying to move.

The quiet part I want to name

A lot of people consider treatments like these for a long time before they ever call — sometimes years — and often without mentioning it to anyone. There’s nothing to be self-conscious about in that. Wanting to look a little fresher is a normal, adult thing to want, and consultations at Refine are private and pressure-free. You are allowed to just gather information. You do not have to decide anything the day you come in.

If you’re curious whether the Moxi and Sofwave pairing fits your skin, the easiest first step is a conversation — no obligation to book a treatment. Come tell me what’s bothering you when you look in the mirror, and I’ll tell you honestly what I’d do, what I wouldn’t, and what it would take. When you’re ready, I’m here.
