Instagram loves it…but is the HALO laser the right choice for you?

We are seeing instagram influencers post this treatment left and right. What is the HALO laser, and how do you know if this laser is the right choice for you? And are the instagram stories just hype?

What is HALO?

HALO is a fractional, resurfacing laser treatment that helps rejuvenate the skin with two wave-lengths. It combines ablative and non-ablative wavelengths to rejuvenate your skin from the inside out. By precisely targeting both the surface and deeper layers of the skin, HALO smooths fine lines, refines texture, reduces sun damage, minimizes acne scars, and improves overall tone. The result is a brighter, more youthful complexion with minimal downtime.

Why is HALO so hot on social media, and what are people really saying?

We’ve seen a recent uptick in the number of new patients asking for this treatment. When we ask how they found us, the answer has increasingly been “from social media.” Shout out to our marketing team, but also to the Austin influencers who have been documenting their own HALO journeys throughout the winter months. These content creators champion transparency when it comes to skin treatments, giving everyone insight into their before and after results. The results? Let’s just say they’re worth the hype, and we have a celebrity skin influencer’s first hand account to prove it-

Celebrity Esthetician Renee Rouleau weighs in after her HALO treatment with us:

You’ve heard us explain HALO, but what about from Renee Rouleau, celebrity aesthetician and skin expert with over 25+ years of experience? She boasts having a-list personal clients like KeKe Palmer, Demi Lovato and Sabrina Carpenter, and knows her way around the medical aesthetics space. Renee visited Refine to try this treatment, and breaks down her HALO Laser experience with accessible specificity, recovery tips, and more. Read the full article and see her visual recovery timeline here.

Her conclusion? “By day 30, my skin looks incredibly glowy and reflective. I do notice a subtle softening of crepiness, especially around the nasolabial folds. The lines above my lip, which are very deep, are slightly softened I think. But I’m never expecting miracles there.

I’ll continue watching how my skin changes over the next few months as collagen production progresses.

Was it worth it? Yes. I believe so. You’ve got to shake things up every now and again.

Would I do it again? Absolutely. I will get it done in another nine months as suggested by my provider.

Is it a hassle to hibernate in my house for a week? Absolutely, yes. But I know what to expect now.”

How to know if you’re a candidate:

Now that you’ve witnessed the “social proof” of the HALO laser, now it’s time to assess if HALO is a good choice for you. Ideal candidates are patients who are seeking a solution for a range of skin concerns, including:

  • Sun damage
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Acne scars and sunspots
  • Skin dullness
  • Pigmented lesions
  • Pore size

Furthermore, this treatment is perfect for those who want a proactive approach to their skin, with minimal downtime from social activities. Whether you have fair or darker skin, HALO’s customizable approach makes it a versatile option for various skin types. Specifically, this treatment is best suited for those who are seeking a proactive approach to rejuvenation, aiming to reveal a more youthful, radiant complexion that continues to improve over time.

Let’s get real about healing and results.

The initial healing phase can last up to seven days. Swelling and MENDS are to be expected. MENDS is a term you may have heard if you frequent the medical aesthetics side of any social media platform. The acronym MENDS stands for “microscopic epidermal necrotic debris,” which essentially means small pieces of dead skin tissue. Given that the hybrid fractional laser treatment works by stimulating new skin growth by destroying older skin cells, there is going to be some dead skin tissue that your body will naturally want to remove in order to make way for the new skin.

Here’s a quick day-by-day breakdown of the post-HALO recovery:

  • Days 0-1: Skin feels hot (like a bad sunburn), red, and swollen. Keep skin clean, use ice packs, and sleep with your head elevated.
  • Days 2-3: Swelling peaks, particularly around the eyes. Skin may feel tight, dry, and begin to develop a bronze/crusted appearance.
  • Days 3-5: MENDS appear as the top layer of skin peels off. Do not pick or scrub the skin.
  • Days 5-7: Peeling subsides, revealing new, smoother, and brighter skin.
Aftercare: Use gentle cleanser, apply moisturizer, avoid active ingredients (like Retin-A), and strictly avoid sun exposure.
