How Do Injectable Fillers Work?

Injectable fillers are a substance that is injected under the skin to fill in fine lines and wrinkles. They can also be used to add volume or lifting to areas of the face, creating pleasing contours and enhancing features. Most injectable fillers are made with naturally occurring hyaluronic acid but not all. This substance, which already exists in your body, hangs on to hydration under the skin, which counteracts its loss in the aging process.

Fillers address many signs of aging including unwanted lines and wrinkles by smoothing out the skin for a more youthful look. They can also restore a loss of volume which can cause problems in areas like under the eye (tear troughs) or flattening of the midface that occurs with aging and can lead to accentuated Nasolabial folds and jowling.

The increased volume that comes from injectable fillers can also help to enhance certain features, such as the lips, by giving them a plump, rejuvenated and more hydrated appearance. We can customize the look you are going for to add volume enhancement or simply help restore your natural look.  You’ll be able to achieve more symmetry, smoother skin and lips, and reverse some of the most common signs of aging with safe and easy injectable fillers.

Your results are long-lasting but not permanent. Depending on which dermal filler product you choose (different technologies), which area of the face you’re targeting and your own biology, the amount of time your results will last will vary. Hyaluronic acid fillers, generally speaking, last from 6 to 12 months up to 18 to 24 months depending on these variables.

What are the Benefits of Fillers?

There are many benefits to choosing fillers over other cosmetic procedures. First, your treatment will be quick and can be done in-office.

Injectables are minimally invasive, unlike expensive surgical procedures, and you’ll be in and out of the office in no time at all. Injectables and dermal fillers require little to no downtime with bruising and swelling as the most common side effects.

Most patients are back to daily life immediately after their procedure. Results can be visible right away and there is very little healing required, if any at all. You may experience slight tenderness or swelling, but outside of that, you’re good to go! We often recommend a few days to a week before any major events that you desire to look your best.

One of the best parts about choosing fillers is that they won’t break the bank. Getting injectables is a far more affordable cosmetic procedure than traditional plastic surgery, especially when you consider the fact that there is minimal downtime.

Which means no time off work and no need to arrange childcare. You’re in and out of your procedure the same day.

What Skin and Aging Issues Do Fillers Help Address?

Dermal fillers are known for their efficacy in reducing signs of aging like wrinkles and fine lines and helping to lift sagging skin, but these treatments offer patients so much more.

From plumping your lips to filling out areas that have lost volume, there are numerous benefits to getting injectable fillers.

Here’s a quick list of some of the most common benefits patients experience after opting for dermal fillers:

  • Filler injections can help fill in wrinkles and creases on the face.
  • They also smooth out skin tone and texture.
  • Rejuvenation injections can be used to add volume to lips and cheeks and neck.
  • Dermal fillers can erase a chin crease.
  • They’ll help to smooth out lip lines.
  • Fillers can help create more symmetry in the face.
  • They can help improve the appearance of scars.

What Are the Types of Injectables and Dermal Fillers You Offer?

At Refine Aesthetics Med Spa in downtown Austin, we are happy to offer our patients several choices when it comes to dermal fillers. They are:

  • Juvéderm®
  • Restylane®
  • Sculptra®

Each type of filler has strengths in certain areas, so your choice will depend on your biology, your goals, and the area you’re treating. To find out which product is your best choice for lip fillers, lower.mid face fillers, and more, book a consultation with one of our professionals today.

Juvéderm®

Juvéderm® is a family of hyaluronic acid fillers that are available in different consistencies. Each of these consistencies makes it the perfect fit for certain applications. Juvéderm® is completely reversible, which means that if you’re dissatisfied with the results, the fillers can be removed. This type of filler can last for up to two years, depending on which one you choose.

After this period, it is absorbed back into the body naturally. A Juvéderm® treatment will last, on average, about half an hour. Slight facial swelling and redness may appear for 1-2 weeks but after that, you can expect natural-looking results.

Juvéderm® has different formulations specifically developed for specific uses. These formulations include Juvederm Ultra/ Ultra Plus, Juvederm Voluma, Juvederm Volbella, and Juvederm Vollure.

  • Juvederm Voluma is perfect for smoothing out facial lines around your mouth and nose, and adding volume to your cheeks and temples.
  • Juvederm Volbella was designed to make lips appear more hydrated with minimal fullness added and to help soften fine lines around the lips
  • Juvederm Ultra is designed to restore volume to areas where aging causes fine lines and wrinkles like the mouth, nose, and smile lines.
  • Juvederm Vollure was developed to smooth out parentheses lines around your mouth and nose with technology to help it last longer.

Refine Aesthetics is proud to offer Juvederm, Austin, so book your consultation today!

Restylane®

Restylane is another safe and natural facial filler made using hyaluronic acid, however, this product differs from Juvederm in texture and technology which gives it different strengths.. This product also boasts mouldability, allowing your practitioner to create specific shapes with it. Restylane® also has technology that is more flexible and has a higher lifting capacity. A Restylane® treatment lasts around half an hour with minimal pain and little to no recovery. Results last a similar amount of time as Juvéderm®.

The Restylane® line of products includes Restylane Silk, Restylane Lyft, Restylane Kysse, and Restylane Refyne and Defyne.

  • Restylane Silk has been developed as a lip filler for minimal to moderate volume and to help soften fine lines around the mouth.
  • Restylane Lyft is great at adding volume to cheeks and smoothing our nasolabial folds and helping to contour shape in the mid face.
  • Restylane Kysse lip filler plumps the lip as well, but the formula is such that less product is required for the same results for moderate volume and is great at helping to establish structure to the lip.
  • Restylane Refyne and Restylane Defyne are best used for smile lines and areas that are high movement areas to address  superficial and deeper, more severe wrinkles and folds.

If you’re looking for Restylane® lip fillers, Austin, look no further! Book your consultation, today.

Sculptra®

Unlike Restylane® and Juvéderm®, Sculptra® is a synthetic facial filler that prompts your body to produce new collagen. When we lose collagen, which is the structure that gives our skin volume, wrinkles, folds, and fine lines appear. The new collagen can reverse those effects giving you natural-looking results.

Sculptra® can be injected into more than one area of the face at once, resulting in an all-over rejuvenation, leaving your skin younger-looking. Though results last up to two years, they may take longer to appear than hyaluronic acid fillers because Sculptra® induces collagen production.

While that production is ramping up, it could take a few weeks before the full results are visible.  You may also need a few treatments to fully treat all of your skin concerns. Like the other fillers, however, there is little to no recovery time.  Sculptra is a filler that can help with full face rejuvenation and can be used in combo with other types of fillers or on its own to help provide a refreshed and refined look.

Common Questions About Fillers and Injectables in Austin, TX

Are Fillers and Injectables the Same Thing?

Fillers are a type of injectable. Injectables as a term can also include other products that are not necessarily fillers like Botox, Dysport and Jeveau that are neurotoxins that help to soften dynamic lines that are created by repeated muscle movement.

Can Fillers Ruin Your Face?

If performed by qualified and licensed practitioners your risks are minimized. There are risks to any filler procedure which can range from bruising and swelling to more serious complications such as infection or occlusion (blocking a blood vessel) that can lead to  tissue damage or even blindness.  At Refine Aesthetics we have safety protocols and techniques in place to mitigate the occurrence of these types of complications and employ medically licensed Physician Assistants/Associates that have been practicing aesthetic medicine for 10 years or more that inject in our downtown office.  Dermal fillers have an astronomical rate of satisfaction and can be trusted as a safe and effective treatment for your skin.

What Can I Expect From a Treatment Session?

During your treatment, the target area will be cleaned and you may be given a topical numbing agent topically for comfort in office. Your practitioner will then inject the filler into the treatment area with care and techniques such as ice, vibration, breathing and distraction are incorporated to make your treatment the most comfortable as possible.

Mild swelling, redness, and bruising may occur afterward and your practitioner may ask you to refrain from strenuous exercise for 24-48 hours post injection. However, you will be able to get back to your regularly scheduled day otherwise.  We do recommend giving yourself 1-2 weeks prior to any major events to allow swelling/bruising to subside and the filler to hydrate and settle for optimal results.

How Much do Dermal Fillers Cost?

The cost of dermal fillers can range from $750-$900 per syringe or package pricing for more full face rejuvenation can be created and customized for you at a more economical price for patients. We recommond our consultations to review your desired outcomes and what will work best for your pocket.  Prices incorporate the services of training, experience, and qualified practitioners as well as products used during treatment.

How Much are Lip Fillers?

Lip fillers like Restylane Kysse cost around $750 and include the services of your qualified practitioner.

How Long Do Fillers Last?

Dermal fillers can last 6 months up to two years but will vary depending on which product you choose, amount of product selected and which areas you’re looking to treat. For example areas of high mobility like around the mouth will mechanically break down faster than areas in the mid face or temples.

Who Makes a Good Candidate for Fillers?

Generally speaking,  almost anyone 18 years or older is a candidate, but it’s always best to book a consultation to get the opinion of an experienced professional.  Most fillers are combined with a small amount of lidocaine so let your practitioner know if you have a known allergy or hypersensitivity to lidocaine.  Book your consultation, today!
