BBL Laser Treatments

What is BBL™ Laser Treatment?

BBL™ BroadBand Light therapy, also known as Intense Pulsed Light therapy (IPL), is one of the most powerful devices on the market. This treatment will leave the skin firmer and more even in skin tone with minimal downtime.  BBL™ light therapy is faster and more comfortable than traditional IPL treatments.

Recent studies have proven that this treatment actually reverses signs of aging on a genetic level. The heat from the laser helps to stimulate collagen while targeting brown and red pigment in the skin. BBL™ stimulates cells to regenerate even with 1 treatment, however a series of treatments is recommended for optimal results.

Benefits of BBL™ are reducing sun damage, brown spots, redness and acne and helps to tighten skin improving tone and texture. Common areas to treat are face, neck, chest, arms, hands and even legs.

What Can I Expect From a Treatment Session?

This treatment typically takes 45 min to an hour. Some patients request a topical application of numbing but not all patients require this. Most patients to do not have significant downtime, however we recommend not planning any major events for 2-3 days after your treatment to see how your skin responds. Minor swelling and increased brown and red pigment is temporarily noted but patients are allowed to apply tinted sunscreen and makeup immediately post treatment. There is no peeling or visual flaking with this treatment so it is a perfect treatment to help target crepey skin, brown pigment and fine vessels without interrupting your daily routine leaving your skin revitalized and more youthful.

What is BBL Photofacial?

BBL™ or BroadBand Light therapy, often referred to as photofacials or laser skin rejuvenation, is a transformational technology specifically designed to stimulate the production of collagen. Collagen, of course, is a protein found throughout the body that provides support and structure, and is the source of our skin’s elasticity and strength. As more collagen is produced in your skin, imperfections are repaired, reducing their visibility and revealing a much smoother texture and complexion. BBL has the power to produce similar results to surgery without so much as a single incision.

BBL can be used to treat many different areas of the body without surgery, including your face, neck and de’collete’ as well as your chest, and in some cases, your arms and hands.

There is no incision, no surgery, minimal pain, no anesthesia, making photofacials a non-invasive solution to your skin concerns.

After a BBL photofacial, you’ll experience the many benefits which include:
  • Smoother skin texture
  • Even skin tone
  • Youthful looking skin
  • Increased elasticity in the skin
  • Smaller pores
  • Rejuvenation

What to Expect from a BBL Face Treatment

During a BBL photofacial at Refine Aesthetics in Austin, Texas, you won’t feel any pain. BBL is a fully FDA approved alternative to surgery that uses broadband light energy to stimulate collagen production in the skin, which produces no discomfort. However, your practitioner will apply a topical numbing agent to ensure your experience is as comfortable as possible.

Patients are given glasses or metal eye shields that help to protect the eyes from this powerful light technology and gel will be applied to the treatment area, much like an ultrasound. The handpiece is then held against the treatment area as it begins to emit light pulses. Patients experience slight tingling/heat sensation or short snaps/light rubber banks snaps and your treatment is likely to be over in 30 minutes.

Afterwards, you’ll be cleaned up and sent home after sunscreen is applied. Your skin may appear slightly red and feel warm after your BBL photofacial, but that will fade usually within 24 hours of your treatment.

It’s important that, after a BBL photofacial treatment, you avoid direct sunlight and tanning and you should reapply your sunscreen before heading outside, no matter the season. You can go right back to your life as normal. Unlike surgery, there is minimal downtime after a BBL photofacial.

Treated areas may appear darker in the days following your treatment, and some brown spots might even crust over and flake off. This is normal.

Results appear gradually, but you should be able to see the first signs of rejuvenation within just a couple of days to about a week for the face, other areas like neck and chest can take up to 2 weeks to heal after treatment. However makeup and sunscreen can be reapplied immediately.
