Chemical Peels

At Refine Aesthetics Med Spa in Austin, TX, we’re happy to be able to accommodate patients looking to improve the overall appearance of their skin with medical grade chemical peels.

Chemical peels are a quick route to skin rejuvenation and a fresh, youthful glow. These spa treatments are sought out to tackle acne scars, age and sun spots, fine lines and more. At Refine Aesthetics, we offer Austin chemical peel services to help you achieve your skin goals.

What are Chemical Peels?

As we age, our skin loses its elasticity, we collect scars and marks we’re not so fond of and we begin to see fine lines and other signs of ageing. These common skin issues are easily treated, however, one of the most sought-after spa treatments for all of them is a chemical peel.

A medical grade chemical peel is a cosmetic procedure involving a solution containing acid or acids that cause the top layers of skin to peel off. This rejuvenation process reveals a fresh, new skin surface that glows.

Chemical peels can provide:

  • Smoother skin/improved texture
  • Brighter complexion
  • Reduced visibility of age/sun spots or hyperpigmentation
  • Minimized pores
  • Acne treatment
  • Even skin tone
  • Diminished visibility of fine lines and wrinkles

In short, a chemical peel provides a renewed look to your skin, reducing the signs of age, damage and acne.

What Skin Issues Do Chemical Peels Help Correct?

Men and women come to us for medical grade chemical peels for their many concerns related to skin texture and complexion. From signs of ageing to scarring, this rejuvenation procedure is topical and triggers the safe removal of the top layer of skin cells.

Along with those older skin cells, the top layers of spots, lines and scars are peeled away. This popular cosmetic procedure is known to improve the appearance of:

  • Acne scarring
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Enlarged pore size
  • Age and sunspots
  • Uneven skin tone, discoloration and hyperpigmentation

Following a chemical peel, a new, youthful-looking layer of skin will be revealed and all those imperfections will be less visible. If you have some of these common skin concerns, book a chemical peel with us, and you’ll be on your way to rejuvenated, age-defying skin!

What are the Types of Chemical Peels You Offer?

At Refine Aesthetics Med Spa in Austin, TX, we offer several different types of medical grade chemical peels. They are:

  • Cosmelan Mask
  • VI Peel, VI Precision Plus, VI Purify Plus
  • Advanced Corrective Peel
  • TCA
  • Vitalize Peel & Illuminize Peel
  •  MiniPeels by Skin Better®
  • MiniPeels by SkinCeuticals®

Each different chemical peel has its own strengths. Some are perfectly suited to target specific skin issues, such as discoloration or acne scarring. They all have different ingredients that can zero in on specific problems better than others. These ingredients may vary in reaction with your skin type and day-to-day habits, diet, and activity.

As such, the chemical peel that is right for you depends on several factors. Your practitioner is going to want to assess your skin type, what you’re desired outcome is, and what sort of lifestyle you lead.

The Cosmelan Mask, for example, is perfect for tackling Melasma concerns, while the VI Peel is great for acne-prone skin and reducing rosacea.  SkinCeuticals® Advanced Corrective Peel can target a number of issues, including fine lines, wrinkles, uneven skin tone, skin texture, acne and more.

What to Expect During Your Chemical Peel Treatment

While there are many different types of peels, the procedure for each of them only varies slightly. When a patient undergoes a chemical peel, solutions are applied to the skin that begins a process of exfoliation.

Each peel is conducted in our office by a professional. Our knowledgeable staff will first cleanse the area that will be treated before applying the solution.  The patient may feel a stinging sensation at this time, but it is only temporary and will dissipate after the solution neutralizes. For deeper peels, topical numbing agents may be provided.

What to Expect After Your Chemical Peel Treatment

After your chemical peel, it’s important to pay attention to the instructions our professional staff has given you. Skin that has undergone a peel will immediately become extremely photosensitive, which means it’s imperative that broad-spectrum sunscreen is worn. The peel procedure can cause irritation, not unlike a sunburn.

This side effect will slowly subside over 3 to 5 days. Deeper peels may require more downtime and cause extended peeling, blisters, and tenderness for up to 14 days. For some, downtime may be required before you get back to your regular everyday activities. Medications can be helpful and may be prescribed by your practitioner, depending on which peel you’ve settled on and how deep that peel is.

Within a couple of days, your skin should begin to peel or flake away. Do not attempt to speed up this process by pulling or picking at the peeling skin. Doing so can cause even more pigmentation and damage. After approximately two weeks, sometimes less, your practitioner will advise you to use some light exfoliators to remove any remaining dead skin cells.

Common Questions About Chemical Peels

Do Chemical Peels Ruin Your Skin?

The purpose of a chemical peel is to force your skin to slough off top layers and emerge a new fresh layer of skin. It’s a controlled injury that provokes your skin’s natural healing processes. As such, it causes healing rather than damage. Take a look at some before and after chemical peel pictures to see how the skin is healed.

However, damage can occur if you don’t follow your aftercare instructions precisely. Damage can also occur if you seek out chemical peels to do at home by yourself or from an inexperienced or unlicensed practitioner.

Are Chemical Peels Worth it?

The best medical grade chemical peels offer benefits to anyone and everyone, from improving the overall texture and complexion of your skin to reducing the signs of aging, scarring, and damage.

It is difficult to put a value on your health and beauty, but when you undergo a chemical peel at Refine Aesthetics in Austin, we’ll help you achieve the results that make it worth your time and money. We think our chemical peel photos speak for themselves.
